Living into Your Design :-)

2 years ago, I heard about a concept/theory called Human Design on a Podcast. 

I’m a gal who looooooves personality type tests (I think they’re interesting and give us a lot of insight into who we are and how we work best), so I looked it up and learned it was ‘channeled’ by a guy in 1987…the year I was born. 

And as I searched google, I came across a Human Design ‘Reader’

Similar to Astrology, where you have an Astrological Chart based on when during the year you were born, a person’s Human Design chart is based on their birthdate, timezone, and when during the day they were born. 

As I searched this reader’s website and blogs, I felt my soul getting excited and wanted to book a session, my curiosity piqued. 

So I had my human design chart read, and while a lot of the information was over my head, a lot of it also made sense. 

We finished the session, and she sent additional pdfs for further reading/learning about myself. I printed them (all 27 pages) and tucked them away to ‘dig into more later’ 

Welp, that digging didn’t happen til this year. 

The theory of Human Design has been circulating more and more, and with this increased awareness, had a nudge to look into mine again. So I did…I spent an afternoon reviewing my session recording and reading each sentence of every page carefully, trying to make sense of it all. 

Some of it resonated, some of it was more ‘hmmm…’ 

From a young age, we’re generally taught to work hard, go to school, pick a good career path to provide for yourself and your family, work 40 hours a week for someone else for 30 years, save along the way, and retire, with hopefully enough money if you were disciplined and sacrificed what you truly desired along the way…because there isn’t enough for both, so you have to decide— right?!

Raised by 2 INCREDIBLE and HARD WORKING parents (I love you mom and dad), my story has some beautiful variations from the above— yes, I learned to work hard, I learned the value of having an education, but also learned to follow my passion and if something doesn’t make me happy, I always have the power to change it. 

So while I enjoy being a physical therapist and having my own coaching business, I have this feeling in my gut that the structure of it all can be better, efficient, more of a win-win for EVERYONE involved. 

I’ve never resonated with 40 hour work weeks. The idea that working 5 days a week with 2 days off should be and is the norm makes me LOL. 

Like Nope, not for me. 

So for the past 5 and a half years, my husband and I have been intentionally structuring a life that feels good, a life we’re designing according to our rules and standards. 

Today, as I turn 34, it’s my intention to live more into this design, my design, into who I am at a core and soul level, to play and experiment with it and see how it works for me. 

This post isn’t to say you need to look into your Human Design graph, Myers'-Briggs, Love Language, etc (although if it piques your interest, go for it!), But rather, to simply invite you to get to know yourself deeper, in whatever way feels good to you. How are you meant to live and enjoy this life? Is is different from how you were taught to? 

I truly believe we get to know ourselves better than anyone else, that there’s not a one size fits all approach to anything in life, that we have to optimize our own lives through our own research, trial and error and playing and experimenting and trusting our gut and our heart. I think/have a feeling/hypothesize that when we do this, we will feel true happiness, contentment, satisfaction and fulfillment.  Mmmmmm.

And at the end of the day, isn’t that all that we truly want?
