Just. Keep. Going

This past June, I celebrated my 5 year anniversary from graduating from PT school. I actually recalled the date at the last minute. The night before.

Coincidentally, I had a call scheduled with a friend on that day of our PT graduation anniversary (and if you know me, you know I don’t believe in coincidences), and I mentioned this to her, followed by “who knew as we were graduating that day, that 5 years later, we’d be figuring out how to continue our practice in the middle of a pandemic!”

It’s wild. Both the fact that it’s been 5 years since we’ve graduated, AND the fact that we are in the middle of all the we are in the middle of (a pandemic, an incredible movement for social justice and equality, economic change, environmental change, and all the other things).

Looking back on it all, the past 5 years has flown by. And as I look forward excitedly, wondering what the next 5 years hold, I can’t help but reclaim the mantra that got me through PT school all those years ago… all the tests, the studying, the tears and the cheers: ”Just. Keep. Going. Jasmine.”

I remember I had this image with this quote on the background of my laptop display for the longest time, serving as a loving reminder.

And now I brought it back to continue serving me, and wanted to share it with you, in addition to these other little sayings:

“Just take the next baby step today, even if that baby step is rest.”

“Rest is an action step.”

“Taking care of yourself is an action step.”

“Take it day by day.”

“I don’t have to have it all figured out right this moment; What’s the next right thing I need to do.”

“You’re doing so great!”

“You’re doing the best you can and I’m so proud of you!”

“You got this [say your name here].”

This is how I aim to talk to myself everyday, no matter how I’m feeling. I’ve found these to be more than simply cute little sayings though. These have become sturdy tools, thoughts that have risen from being states of self-love, self-compassion and self-motivation, and return me to those places when I’ve strayed. These words help to keep our minds aligned and feeling on track. They can help us take the guilt-free rest we need to keep going and avoid burnout.

These past few months have taught us the art of taking it one day at a time. I’ve learned to give myself a lot of space and breathing room, and to actively carve out self-care time. This is no longer considered a luxury, but a necessity for us, friends.

June has been a month. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that. So I hope the above helps. I hope you’re well and are taking care of yourself.

I’d love to hear your ideas, your sayings and what you’ve been doing to stay sane and grounded. Send me an email over at hello@jasmineraecoaching.com
